With the international tourism sector set to reopen after the health crisis, a leading ferry operator has moved to provide added protection for travellers.
The ferry company DFDS says it will continue to offer its “Travel Guarantee” throughout 2021.
This means if plans change because of Covid-19, travellers can re-book a crossing at no extra cost.
The company is also conducting a survey on how Covid-19 has affected everyday life, especially travel plans for the near future.
The aim is to ensure that people whose travel plans may be affected by the pandemic can still make changes at short notice and not be out of pocket.
A spokesman said, “We understand that there are a lot of restrictions regarding travelling abroad at the moment.
DFDS, meanwhile, has been awarded the World’s Best Ferry Operator for the tenth consecutive year.
The accolade comes after it also won Europe’s Leading Ferry Operator 2020 for the ninth consecutive year.
The company, like the rest of the travel industry, is currently gearing up for the reopening of international travel from 17 May.
Recognised as The Oscars of the travel industry, the World Travel Awards are voted for by the public and travel professionals.
Peder Gellert, Executive Vice President & Head of Ferry Division at DFDS, says: “We are delighted. Our win is particularly valued this year considering the great challenges we and the rest of the travel industry have faced. It is a testament to our teams onboard and ashore who work incredibly hard to provide our passengers with the best possible service.”
“This award means a great deal to us as it is decided by both the public and industry professionals – those who have first-hand experience of our service and our people. This year, they have continued to place their trust in us and in return, we are committed to offering a reliable means of travel with outstanding customer service.”
He added, “These awards recognise our dedication to customer service, which is why we continually look to enhance our service through customer feedback, engaging with customers via social media, or improving the facilities onboard our vessels.”
There are also robust safety measures in place on board its ships, he pointed out.
