The Church of Almighty God (CAG) released its 2019 Annual Report on the Chinese government’s persecution of the Church’s Christians today.
The report provides statistics and details of the persecution both within China, and overseas by government agents. The CAG claims that in an intensified suppression campaign in 2019, 19 believers died as a result of persecution. The Report claims that there were over 30,000 cases of persecution of CAG Christians throughout last year.
The CAG is a relatively new Chinese Christian church that was banned by the Government in 1995 and has since been the subject of rigorous suppression and severe persecution by the Chinese Communist Party.
In the broader context of religious persecution in mainland China, which needs to take into account the persecution of Muslim minorities in Xinjiang Province (Uighurs) and other mainstream religious denominations, the CAG Report provides a snapshot of evidence of the clampdown by the ruling Chinese Communist Party on only one religious sect.
