It’s one of Belgium’s top tourist attractions and Christmas promises to be even more of an extra special occasion at the Bokrijk open air museum in Limburg.
During Bokrijk’s winter evenings, its nostalgic carnival and rides from yesteryear take visitors back in time to their childhood.
People can enjoy a fairground theatre, dance and music entertainment with the entire family, admire a spectacular fire show and take a ride on a Ferris wheel or caterpillar.
Now an annual event, the winter evenings takes place inside the famous open air museum of Bokrijk (the historical buildings are not open but illuminated).
The nostalgic fairground attractions date from the end of the 19th century until the present.
There are drinks and food to enjoy, plus a big fire show twice every evening (at 6pm and 7.30 pm), a fire parade (at 5pm and 8pm) and, to finish, a beautiful fireworks display above the water (at 7 pm).
Prices: €7.5 (from 13 years and older) – Children 3-12 years pay €2. The fairground attractions cost extra (prices range from €1.5 to €2.5).
It all runs from December 26 to December 30 and January 2 to January 4, from 16h – 21h.
The fun does not stop there because, every Saturday and Sunday during January and February you can also enjoy winter walks in the grounds of the open air museum, just a hour or so from Brussels by car.
The East and West Flanders sections of the museum are open to walking enthusiasts from 14:00 to 20:00 every weekend.
Visitors can also enjoy the museum’s bicycle routes and are free to take their own bike or rent one in Bokrijk for €10 euros (limited availability).
