The EU Political Report enters 2026 with both reflection and renewal, following the passing of its long‑serving Editor in Chief, James Wilson, in late 2025. Wilson, a respected journalist originally from Scotland, spent his career shaping incisive commentary on European and international affairs. Based in Brussels, he led the publication while also serving as a correspondent on African affairs for NE Global Media, contributing deeply reported analyses on conflicts, geopolitics, and human rights.
Wilson’s editorial voice was marked by clarity, conviction, and a deep commitment to Europe’s future. His stance on Brexit was well known: he described himself as “disappointed” by the direction the UK Government chose to pursue, calling it “a strategic mistake.” Having made Belgium his family home, he embraced the European project not only professionally but personally, reflecting a belief in cooperation, openness, and shared democratic values.
His unexpected passing prompted the Directors of the EU Political Report to place the publication on hiatus. Over recent months, they have undertaken a careful review of its mission, editorial direction, and long‑term purpose. The conclusion of this process marks a turning point: a renewed commitment to high‑quality political analysis, grounded in European perspectives but globally aware.
Today, the Directors announce the appointment of Siobhan Dillon as the new Editor-in-Chief, signalling a new strategic direction for the publication. Dillon brings more than a decade of senior experience in EU communications, political advisory roles, and strategic editorial leadership. Her background includes serving as a Political Advisor and Chief of Staff in the European Parliament, as well as senior communications roles across EU institutions, networks, and international organisations. Her professional profile reflects deep expertise in shaping policy narratives, stakeholder engagement, and high‑impact editorial work across the European landscape.
Dillon’s appointment reflects both continuity and evolution: continuity in the publication’s commitment to rigorous, accessible political reporting, and evolution in its ambition to expand its analytical scope and digital presence.
In accepting the role, Ms Dillon said:
“I am pleased to take on the role as Editor-in-Chief and look forward to re‑launching the publication as we pursue a new era and approach.”
As the EU Political Report prepares for its relaunch, it does so with gratitude for James Wilson’s legacy and confidence in the leadership that will guide its next chapter. His work set a high standard—one that the publication will continue to honour as it evolves to meet the challenges and opportunities of Europe’s political landscape today.
