Vodafone this week hosted its Digital Enabler Showcase event at the Concert Noble in Brussels.
Leaders and policymakers from EU institutions, ambassadors, permanent representatives, academics, and media attended the event, which spotlighted the opportunity of digitalisation. Real-life examples of how the latest 5G digital technologies are being used to transform and accelerate the EU’s Digital and Green transition, were on display, including applications in healthcare, agriculture, education, smart cities and SMEs, including live 3D heart modelling, Connected Hospital equipment, IoT solutions, cloud based sustainable farming and road safety technologies.
The Showcase was followed by a Politico Live special debate where policymakers and executives debated the EU’s ability to achieve Digital Decade 2030 targets, a crucial subject in light of the current war with Ukraine and urgent need to enhance Europe’s resilience in the fields of cybersecurity, as well as reduce external dependencies in critical sectors.
During a fireside chat, Joakim Reiter, Chief External and Corporate Affairs Officer, Vodafone highlighted: “We have to be braver in unleashing private investment across the EU to achieve the digital decade targets. Europe is 10 years behind when it comes to transformational 5G – we must address this conundrum and reduce the gap.”
