Back in 1994, Ukraine voluntarily renounced the world’s third largest nuclear arsenal and it has never conducted its own nuclear programme since. The state is a committed party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and actively cooperates with the IAEA. Whilst there are scientific organisations in Ukraine that are engaged in the development of nuclear energy, unlike Russia, Ukraine has been and remains transparent in these matters – they have nothing to hide. Stories about “development” of nuclear weapons by Ukraine in such institutions have been a fantasy of Kremlin propaganda for many years. It is obvious to the whole world that this is a lie, so Russia has now changed its rhetoric and has switched to manipulating insinuations about creating a “dirty bomb”.
Forced to respond to these groundless accusations, Ukraine has officially invited IAEA experts to all peaceful facilities in Ukraine that Russia is lying about in the context of the alleged development of a “dirty bomb” in order to disprove the Russian accusations.
Now the Russian Defence Ministry claims that Ukraine allegedly plans to detonate a low-yield nuclear warhead to accuse Russia of using weapons of mass destruction. The explosion, according to the Kremlin, is planned to be disguised as an accidental detonation of a Russian nuclear warhead.
When Russia accuses Ukraine of something, it often means that it is preparing some kind of provocation itself. In this case, it is possible that in the conditions of a total fiasco at the front, the Russian occupiers will plan to organise a terrorist attack, for which they will accuse the Ukrainian authorities.
Russia has once again raised the stakes and taken the risky step of escalation with referring to the use of a “dirty bomb”, on the eve of the meeting of the G20. The world should not swallow this lie. Ukraine does not have any “dirty bomb”. These are only dirty pretexts to justify Russia’s slaughter of the Ukrainian people with yet more propaganda and fake news.
