On 20 and 21 September, regional elections are taking place in seven Italian regions. These elections will be of particular importance for a country that has been hit extremely hard by the COVID-19 crisis. Italy is now engaged in the long and difficult path to recovery and needs progressive green forces to successfully emerge from the crisis.
The Italian Greens are running in all the regions and are supporting progressive electoral coalitions in all of them. Green candidates are campaigning tirelessly for a recovery embedded in a fair, just and sustainable ecological transition that benefits all Italian citizens.
“As European Greens, we strongly support Italian Greens’ lists, as well as the progressive electoral coalitions they are part of. We equally stand with Verdi-Grüne-Verc who are running in many municipalities for the local elections in South Tyrol to be held on the same weekend.,” Thomas Waitz and Evelyne Huytebroeck, co-chairs and Vula Tsetsi, committee member of the European Green Party, commented.
“Reactionary and extreme-right coalitions, often led by candidates from the most extreme parties, are dangerous for the path to recovery in Italy as well as for democracy. We strongly support the Greens and the progressive coalitions they are part of and we encourage Italian citizens to mobilise and vote to defeat these populistic extreme right forces.”
