Fame was the hit Broadway stage show about a legendary New York High School of the Performing Arts that became an even bigger smash on the big screen.
Fans and critics alike made a real song and dance about the pop-culture phenomenon and now St. John’s International School in Waterloo is doing the same with its very own production next month.
For those unfamiliar with the story, it is set during the last years of New York City’s celebrated High School for the Performing Arts in the early 1980s.
The version being revived by the performing arts department at the school is called “Fame Jr” and tells the same bittersweet, but ultimately inspiring, story of a diverse group of students who commit to four years of gruelling artistic and academic work.
With candour, humour and insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young people today, said a school spokesman adding, “It promises to be an amazing musical production.”
The two-hour show takes place St. John’s International School, on Drève Richelle in Waterloo on Friday May 12 from 7pm, as well as a matinée performance on Saturday 13 May from 2pm and tickets cost between €10 and €16.
