Meeting in the margins of the 79th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, held talks with Denmark’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lars Løkke Rasmussen.
In a Joint Communiqué issued at the end of this meeting, both sides agreed that “Denmark considers the Autonomy Plan presented by Morocco in 2007 as a serious and credible contribution to the ongoing UN process and as a good basis for an agreed solution between all parties.”
In this Joint Communiqué, the two Ministers reiterated their support to the UN-led process and for the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, and his efforts to achieve a peaceful and mutually acceptable solution to the conflict, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
Denmark’s new position is in line with the international momentum generated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in support of the autonomy plan and Morocco’s sovereignty over its Saharan territory. It is in line with the trend being followed in all EU Member States and all regions in Europe.
