It’s that time of year again: the quest to find the best shrimp croquettes in Belgium.
This has become an annual competition for what is called the little superstar of Belgian gastronomy.
From now until 20 August culinary establishments wishing to take part in the 5th edition of the competition to find the best shrimp croquettes in Brussels are invited to submit their entries.
The winner will be announced on 29 September.
In 2022, having crowned Fernand Obb Delicatessen two years running, the organisers decided to appoint the winner, Cédric Mosbeux, as a member of the jury.
Last year, Les Brasseries Georges took the title once again out of the 20 establishments that took part in the 2023 edition.
More are expected to be vying for the coveted title this year.
For the 2024 edition a small novelty has been introduced: the public will be able to take part in the jury as well and judge several croquettes.
The call for candidates for the fifth edition of the Best Shrimp Croquette in Brussels competition is now open and will run until 20 August 2024. Candidates can register via the following link: http://crm.visit.brussels/visitbrusselsaelvs/pages/6gadknreejfmbfvyvlng.html?PageId=fe1d00ea5143ef11a3166045bd8bcb36 or by sending an email to: [email protected].
To take part, candidates must meet the following criteria: they must have an establishment, canteen, food counter or food truck in operation and located in the Brussels-Capital Region and offer homemade shrimp croquettes on their menu.
To judge them and establish a ranking of the products tasted, a panel of food journalists, chefs and members of the public will use a scoring grid. Points will be awarded on the basis of a number of criteria, including the crumb coating, taste and the quality of the shrimps.
The winner of this year’s competition will be able to use the title of “Best Shrimp Croquettes in Brussels” for a year following the announcement of the results.
