To mark the occasion, two concerts will be held featuring the resident organists — Momoyo Kokubu and Xavier Deprez — along with coloratura soprano Caroline Jestaedt, in a programme of popular classical music.
It was 25 years ago that the romantic organ of the Church of Notre Dame du Finistère was restored by the Thomas Organ Builders.
In the year 2000, Brussels was the European Capital of Culture, which allowed for the launch of several organ restoration and new instrument projects, such as the one at the city’s Cathedral.
Thanks to the support of King Albert II and the CGER, a sponsorship initiative was made possible, leading to the successful restoration of this 1856 instrument.
Since 2000, in addition to liturgical services, the Finistère organ has been played nearly every week in concert during the Monday Organ Recitals at 1 PM.
The programme will include works by Bach, Handel, Schubert and Franck.
