China will seek to “embrace the world in its opening-up process,” says the country’s ambassador to Belgium.
Ambassador Cao Zhongming was speaking in Brussels at an event hosted by the Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BCECC).
The outgoing diplomat said he “appreciates” the long-time optimism about China of the Belgian business community and the “great efforts” made by the BCECC in promoting China-Belgium cooperation.”
He also that, in 2024, “I sincerely hope that friends from Chinese and Belgian business communities will continue to follow the general direction of mutually beneficial cooperation.”
This, he added, will involve “stepping up exchanges and cooperation, further upgrade cooperation, consolidating mutual trust with a rational and pragmatic approach, and bringing China-Belgium economic and trade cooperation to a higher level.”
He added, “I hope that the BCECC will continue to build platforms for exchanges and cooperation, and further strengthen the bridge of friendship, cooperation and development between China and Belgium.”
He went on to say that “China will stay committed to opening-up, and will continue to create favorable conditions for other countries to share in China’s opportunities.”
He noted that China’s Premier Li Qiang underlined (at the economic summit in Davos at the end of last year) that China will “open its door still wider to the world. China embrace investments from businesses of all countries with open arms, and will work tirelessly to foster a market-oriented, law-based and world-class business environment.”
The ambassador echoed such hopes and told the packed audience, “We will also hear the views of foreign businesses regularly and take active steps to address reasonable concerns.”
