That one day of the year when we can all maybe indulge our loved ones is fast approaching.
Yes, it is Valentine’s Day again very soon so why not try to hit the spot by treating your beloved to something tasty at a restaurant?
Eating establishments all over Brussels have pulled out the stops this year to put on something a bit special for Cupid’s Day and here is this website’s very own Top Ten of places to head for on 14 February.
They are in no particular order but any of these listed below is very much well worth a try.
No. 1: The Fifty One, Ixelles. Three-courses, €120 for two. Starter, mains and dessert plus two cocktails.Starter: grilled shallots in saffron butter with trout caviar; Mains: Millefeuille of zucchini and porcini mushrooms marbled with provola; Dessert pear tartare and red fruits.
No. 2. Timber, Woluwe Saint-Pierre. Menu: vegetable tartare toast or foie gras; Gamberoso carpaccio followed by veal cooked at low temperature with BBQ leek and smoked lobster medallion. Dessert, avocado cheesecake and grilled pineapple. Costs €95pp with a glass of champagne. Other drinks not included and not possible to take à la carte that night.
No. 3. Le Mess, Etterbeek. Fish and meat menu of mustard hummus, seaweed broth and roasted free range chicken. Vegetarian and vegan menu of fennel, lentil parmentier and shallots and citrus salad. €60 pp.
No.4. Argan at Dolce La Hulpe. Glass of rose cava, amuse-bouches of Verrine de potimarron, émulsion de truite fumée, Pépite de foie-gras au spéculoos et confit d’oignons rouges ; starter is salade tiède de homard, poire conférence, ratte, ficoïde glaciale et gel passion ;mains is carré de veau en basse température, purée de maïs, carottes fanes, pop-corn au thym et jus à la sauge; Dessert is déclinaison de forêt noire.Vegetarian menu also available, both priced €75 pp.
No. 5 Bois Savanes, Saint Job (available 13 to 18 February):Tom Kha Khung, a soup (€13.50); Thod Mun Kaai, a chicken dish (€11.90); Massaman Kaai, a curry (€18.70) and a scampi dish Khung Pahd Bai Gra Prow (€21.90).
No. 6. Humus x Hortense, Ixelles.Tasting menu and additional botanical cocktail and wine pairing. Costs €225.Includes celeriac “Paris Brest”, homemade amazake,spelt forcaccia, wild mushrooms and Belgian saffron broth.
No. 7. Dish, Waterloo. Couple’s brunch at €22: coffee or mimosa, a choice of one of four Brunch items and a choice from sweet selection.
No. 8. Manoir de Lebioles, near Spa.7-courses, €119pp. Consists of beef and crab; Atlantic Skrei; dried and smoked veal (the signature dish); tarte tatin; duck breast and mandarin.
No. 9. L’Orchidee Blanche, Ixelles. No Valentine Day special but, instead, a Vietnamese New Year special on 16 and 18 February. A 4-course menu (inc. aperitif) costing €60pp. Full programme of festivities and tombola.
No. 10. For a stay at home option try Prego (locations at Stockel, Flagey, Bailli and Louvain La Neuve).Fresh pasta.
