Remarks made by Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission during the press conference following the Foreign Affairs Council held on 22 January 2024 have provoked a stiff response from Azerbaijan, through their spokesman for Foreign Affairs.
Azerbaijan is aggrieved by the fact that the international community has failed to make any effort to persuade Armenia to act in line with the norms and principles of international law, whereas Azerbaijan has always been committed to negotiations, peace and stability with Armenia. They consider that Azerbaijan’s measures ending aggression and separatism are paving the way for concluding peace agreement with Armenia.
They are also dismayed by the EU Representative’s solidarity with France about the expulsion of Azerbaijan’s diplomats in France.
The spokesman stressed that Azerbaijan is committed to its international obligations and international law, and that it will resolutely prevent attempts to legitimize any claims and threatening language against its national interest.
