Accordng to the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on 11 April units of the Armed Forces of Armenia fired on the Azerbaijan Army’s defensive positions stationed in the Lachin district. As a result of this unprovoked assault, several servicemen of the Azerbaijan Army were killed or injured. The Armenian military used Iranian attack drones for the first time in this attack.
The fact that such provocations by Armenia took place in the face of serious calls for negotiations on a peace agreement by the international community indicates that Armenia is not interested in the peace process. Such military provocations by Armenia are accompanied at the same time by provocative political actions and statements.
The Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan has reiterated that Armenia is violating the norms and principles of international law, breaching the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, thereby seriously threatening regional peace and security.
The Ministry calls on the international community to recognise the total responsibility of Armenia for these actions, and to roundly condemn them. The Ministry stresses that in order to prevent future military provocations by Armenia, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan will take all necessary defensive and preventive measures.
