The Ukrainian-Russian war has been going on for 8 years, but the countries of the West, until February 24, 2022, did not believe that Putin would launch a full-scale offensive on all fronts in Ukraine. The destruction of civilian infrastructure, the obliteration of entire cities off the face of the Earth and, the murder of children, women and entire families could have been avoided if the countries of the West had not looked at the world through “rose-tinted spectacles”, pretending that nothing was happening.
On February 24, 2022, the Russian Federation committed a crime against all humanity. The beginning of the so-called “demilitarisation” of Ukraine showed that Putin will stop at nothing. Russian propagandists on the main Russian TV channels claim that Ukraine is just the first stage of “demilitarisation”. Today, the countries of the West are obliged to unite and send all their forces to help Ukraine in order to prevent the war from coming to the territory of other European countries.
Analysing 25 days of active hostilities in Ukraine and Ukraine’s minimal losses of its territories, we can conclude that the Russian army is much weaker than Russian propagandists have led us to believe. One should not necessarily be afraid of the Russian army. Ukraine has already proved that it is able to defeat the army with its “bare hands”. A fully fledged army in Ukraine only began to be created after 2014. There is much hardware in the Russian army, but the software is lacking, and in the final analysis human resources count for everything. In Ukraine, in addition to the army, there are millions of volunteer heroes who are ready to fight for their state and for Peace in Europe, but they need to be provided with funds, weapons and air defence systems.
Today we still have a chance to provide Ukraine with the weapons they need to halt the aggressor, but tomorrow may be too late. We can prevent the Third World War without taking up arms, and rely on the heroic Ukrainian people, on whose shoulders this heavy burden has fallen. But only by common efforts and real help will we prevent the conflict from escalating to a global scale. The sooner we help Ukraine, the sooner we will secure a brighter future for ourselves.
