Now, more than ever, we all probably need to dream and bring some magic back into our lives.
Well, there’s one well-known European tourist destination that has just the thing for that.
In a few weeks, Disneyland Paris marks a special anniversary: 30 years since it opened.
To mark this key milestone in its history, it has lined up a host of events.
First, it’s worth remembering, maybe, what was happening in the world three decades ago: Bill Clinton was elected president of the U.S; the Cold War was declared over and the Maastricht Treaty was signed.
Since it opened at the same time as these other landmarks, Disneyland Paris has established itself as one of Europe’s top tourist destinations with two spectacular theme parks, several themed Disney hotels, several event venues and the Sleeping Beauty Castle – and all are only about three hours or so drive from Brussels.
It has welcomed hundreds of millions of visitors since opening in 1992 and also boasts 7 Disney hotels, full-service convention centres and a golf course.
In addition, it is home to Disney Village, one of the largest entertainment centres in the Ile-de-France region. Covering more than 30,000 square metres, the village features themed restaurants, shops and a multiplex cinema.
The Disneyland Park marks its big anniversary on 6 March.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, close interactions, including hugs, are temporarily suspended but many Disney, Pixar, Star Wars Characters or Marvel Super Heroes still appear in the parks and offer guests memorable photo opportunities.
But, what’s in store for the 30th celebrations?
Well, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Pluto can’t wait to celebrate their anniversary and to show off their dazzling new outfits.
Some spectacular new shows are lined up for 2022 but some old favourites, like the spectacular Disney Illuminations which, as night falls, lights up the castle, have also made a welcome return appearance.
This show features state-of-the-art technology and incorporates sounds, lights, projections, fountains and breath taking pyrotechnic effects. The Illuminations will return but they are currently postponed until further notice due to Covid restrictions.
Also making a return are fan favourite shows Frozen and The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands.
This 30-minute show, with daily performances, was created especially for Disneyland Paris. With impressive choreography and original costumes, the adventures of Simba, Nala, Rafiki, Timon and Pumba are brought to life by singers, dancers, acrobats and percussionists. Re-orchestrated by Disneyland Paris, guests can (re)experience The Lion King with every favourite moment and the legendary music
The Disney Figures and daily parade are also all present in January and February.
The shows are magnificent but you might not be able to do all the attractions in one day. If it’s a first visit for your children, and they have not got the chance to test all the attractions you may want to consider staying over.
Ticket sales at the park entrance are currently suspended but you can purchase them online.
The two parks also fully comply with all the current health regulations. When in France, in line with French authorities’ requirements, a health pass is required for any guests aged above 12 years and 2 months in order to visit Disney Parks, Disney Hotels and Disney Village.
Make sure to take masks for everyone older than 6 and to wear them all day (except when eating) and a sanitary pass is required to enter the parks. Before the security check at the entrance of the Disney Parks, a cast member will ask you for your “EU digital COVID certificate” with the QR code of every guest older than 12.
Speaking of the upcoming 30th anniversary events, a spokesman said, “This is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of the resort’s enchanting past and exciting future. Disneyland Paris cast members will be at the heart of the celebrations, delivering the resort’s signature service and exceeding guests’ expectations each day by going above and beyond to make every visit special.”
So, with its 30th anniversary celebrations officially starting on March 6, there has surely never been a better time to visit Disneyland Paris.
